Hi.

Bali, day 2ish?

Bali, day 2ish?

So we made it to Bali. A few observations:

- In the afternoon you can look up and see hundreds of kites. Apparently this is a popular past time, like playing in a sports league.
- The mornings smell like incense, because everyone is puts out a tiny morning offering to the Hindi god. You can see what that looks like down a few pictures..
- Everything, even modest houses have insane amounts of detail and craft incorporated into things like roofs, doors, entryways, etc... Apparently all this is hand carved. Amazing.
- It is incredibly lush. Expensive plants that only grow in greenhouses in the US grow everywhere here. It looks like a fancy tropical greenhouse everywhere you go.
- Traffic is intense. Motorbikes whizz around like mosquitos, trucks pass each other with inches to spare, things move faster and more densely than you would think possible. Standard SE Asia traffic apparently, but you really don't get it until you see it. If it's this intense in Denpasar, I can't imagine what Bangkok will be like.
- People are really nice and smile a lot. Also, things seem really safe. I attribute it to 90% of the population being Hindu which believes strongly in karma, and how that affects your path in the next life. Stealing your shit would result in being reincarnated as a chicken (unofficial hypothesis).

Early morning sunrise from our balcony. The nice thing about jet lag is it gives you an incredible ability to wake up early AF.

I thought this was pretty cool. They use bamboo as a structural supporting thing.

Every country has a beloved light beer. May I present you our beverage of choice for the next month.

This was so good. It was tricky to order because they didn't speak English and I'm a big goofy white dude, but we got there eventually. I think it was the following:

- Chicken smoked with a bunch of tasty spices, green been, bean sprout and something spicy salad, some local greens cooked with a lot of ginger, roasted peanuts, and rice a hard boiled egg with some spicy pickled peppers on top. It was crazy good.

Lots of swastikas in Bali. Apparently this is an ancient symbol meant to signify good luck, and a higher self. Fucking nazi bastards...
