Austin / Baton Rouge
Howdy ya'll. Jazmyne again. Twice in a row. How lucky are you!
Anyways, jumping right in. Austin, TX. Land of beautifully renovated homes, amazing public art everywhere, delicious craft beer, and of course, BBQ. Austin reminded us of Portland but with Minneapolis summertime weather. Lots of people on bikes, plenty of day drinking on patios, lots of green plant life growing everywhere. It was really quite lovely.
LIzzie! My old friend! How nice to see you again!! (Side note: After 4 months in SE Asia, you get really comfortable with tiny lizards crawling up every wall you walk by so whenever we see them here like in Petaluma, Scottsdale, or now in Texas, we get very excited. They are all referred to as Lizzie McGuire, regardless of color or size).
Bette Davis' great aunt.
The BBQ line at La Barbecue. Took about 20 minutes to get through and on man, were we in for a treat.
Pièce de résistance. 1 lb of pulled pork, 0.5 lb of brisket, a chipotle sausage, potato salad, super spicy pickles, cajun slaw, and some buns. You know when the brisket can be pulled apart with a plastic fork, that shit is GOOD!
I love the combination of tropical plants, palm trees and cactus mixed with the more temperate climate plants. Also, the signage game is on point in the South.
Blue Owl Brewing is located in a certain township zone that requires them to sell you 4 beers at a time. They can't just sell you a pint. You instead get 4- 12 oz beers and get the keep the glass. Let me tell you, we did not leave this place sober.
Getting that magic hour lighting!!
She's always buzzin' just like neon, neon....
Austin, you were delightful. Now, onto our 7th state of the trip thus far: Louisiana!
Baton Rouge, LA. It feels very stately, which is appropriate cause it's the state capital. It is also the home of LSU and is one of the last cities the Mississippi River runs through before it reaches the Gulf of Mexico.
Old Governor's Mansion. Like a mini White House.
The streets are oddly empty on Saturday afternoons. We're not sure where everyone is...
The tallest capital building out of all 50 states.
Old Arsenal building located in the middle of a beautiful park next to the capital building. Fun Fact: This building used to store gun powder in it's walls and was also an office for the Confederacy during the Civil War.
Portrait of Lady and a Wigged Man.
Portrait of a Lady and some skyscrapers. Growing up, I was always tallest in my class.
The old capital building looks like a combination of a castle and the headquarters for the Church of Scientology.
Evidence of Mardi Gras is all over this city.
Ah, yes, breweries. Our favorite tourist attraction. Especially when they have a taco truck in front of them!
Literally, some of the most AMAZING tacos we've ever had. Artistic, crafted, tasty AF!
We will never turn down a brewery tour.
Keepin' it classy in LA.
As I mentioned, no shortage of great logos and signs over here.
(In an overhead speaker type of voice): That concludes the end of our tour. Please be sure to take all of your belongs with you and make sure to watch your step as you exit the vehicle. From all of us here at McSteen Travel Times, we'd like to wish you and yours a wonderful rest of your day. Ya'll come again real soon, ya hear.
