Loving... Singapore. I didn’t expect to enjoy this city/country as much as I am. It’s like if you mixed Disneyland, Las Vegas, New York, Star Trek, and Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory. It’s magical, odd, fascinating, rich (culturally and monetarily), and beautiful.
Feeling… grateful to not be on Gili Meno anymore. (Stay tuned for my Gili-gan’s Island post!)
Reading… “Ready Player One” by Ernest Cline.
Finished... “The Husband’s Secret” by Liane Moriarty, which I really enjoyed.
Happy… to not be sick anymore. Lost my first day in Singapore to Balinese traveler’s diarrhea (TMI?)
Experiencing… post traveler’s diarrhea constipation (ok, TMI for sure).
Eating… the best food of this trip so far. Singapore is for food lovers!
Missing… Mexican food. It exists here but is too far out of our price range. Burritos will have to wait.
Needing… a haircut. Badly. Growing out your hair in a tropical climate is rough.
Not loving… just how humid it is in Singapore. Makes it a bit tricky to stay properly hydrated and regulate your body temperature.
Annoyed... with what the humidity is doing to my skin. Acne central!
Sleeping… in a room with 6 other people. Not my favorite thing, especially since there is a guy who has a VERY loud alarm go off every morning at 5am and it takes him forever to turn it off.
Thankful… for my earplugs and eye mask.
Wondering... where all the Americans are. We haven't met a single American since we left the States. Not that I'm complaining, I just think it's interesting. Either they're staying at nicer hotels than us or they're all traveling in Europe.
Listening… to Happy Folk playlist on Spotify.
Wearing… the same 3 outfits. I purged a bunch of extra clothes that I either wasn’t wearing or didn’t love. While my pack is now 12kg lighter (yes, that’s right - 12KG! Went from 21kg at the Seattle Airport to 9kg when we checked into the Bali airport), it also means that laundry needs to happen pretty regularly since our clothes are immediately soaked when we leave an AC building.
Developing… blisters on my feet. Walking lots of miles in sandals in 85% humidity makes for some friction problems.
Watching...nothing. Streaming video doesn’t work in Singapore either. I’ll have so much bingeing to do when I get back to the States.
Thinking… a lot. Particularly about how stripping away everything and only carrying 9kg of essentials on your back (basically just a small amount of clothes, a toothbrush, some Pepto Bismol tablets, and a laptop) gives you clarity to see what you actually can and can’t live without.
Craving… art supplies. Paints, paper, pastels, etc. This is one of the things that I’m realizing I can’t live without.
